Former Jamesville-DeWitt football coach Carl Bjork is considered one of the finest coaching minds in Central New York. He introduced the use of tools such as scouting and game films at J-D which proved to be an effective way to prepare his teams.

Bjork compiled a 150-51-5 record at J-D from 1957 to 1981. During his tenure, the Red Rams won six championships and shared league honors five times between 1958 and 1976. Bjork also posted undefeated seasons 1965 and 1968.

In his final season as head coach, J-D gifted its venerable head coach with a Section III championship in 1981. The Red Rams defeated Holland Patent, 34-28, to win the Class B crown.

Bjork, a dedicated educator at J-D, also coached wrestling and baseball and was an outstanding basketball official. J-D honored Bjork by naming its field after him.

Career highlights:

1945: Graduated from Manlius High School, all-county in basketball

1954: Graduated from SUNY Cortland

1954: Started teaching at Jamesville-DeWitt and began as a two-year assistant football coach

1957-1981: Head varsity football coach at J-D

1981: Won Section III Class B football title

2000: Inducted into the Jamesville-DeWitt High School Athletic Hall of Fame
