Walter Ludovico, a Christian Brothers Academy alum, set records as a high school football coach and also had a career as an elected official.

At CBA, Ludovico was the first player to earn All-City football honors at two different positions, guard and quarterback. He also received a boxing scholarship to Manhattan College. Ludovico later returned to CBA to coach football. During his tenure, he created a football dynasty at CBA, chalking up 38 straight league wins.

In 1953, he was selected the All-America Catholic High School coach of the year as his “Golden Tornadoes” went undefeated, untied and unscored upon. Ludovico went on to coach football teams at Liverpool High School and he started the Bishop Ludden football program, coaching there from 1965-68.

In addition to sports, Ludovico had a distinguished career as a 30-year member of the Syracuse Common Council. He died in 1987.

Career highlights:

1940: Played varsity football at CBA, first athlete to earn All-City football honors for both guard and quarterback positions

1941-1943: Joined US Army Air Corp in World War II

1948-1961: Teacher and football coach at CBA. He had seven unbeaten seasons, won 38 straight league games and won four City/County Championships

1948, 1954: Voted Syracuse area’s Coach of the Year

1953: Voted All-Catholic, All-American High School Coach of the Year

1957-1989: Thirty-year member of City of Syracuse Common Council

1962-1964: Football coach for Liverpool High School

1965-1968: Started the Bishop Ludden football program, served as head coach

1967: President of North Side Catholic Youth Organization

1967: Outstanding Coach in Central New York Award

1987: Received The Purple and Gold Award, given by the CBA Alumni Association
