Dr. Alan Foster, a radiologist at St. Joseph’s Hospital, came to Syracuse from Waterbury, Conn. For more than two decades, Foster has achieved fame and recognition as one of state’s top golfers.

Foster’s impressive golf resume consists of a number of major titles. Foster has won 10 crown jewel events including eight Gerry Ashe Memorial titles and two Post-Standard Amateur titles. He is one of only three players to have won the New York State triple crown of amateur golf, capturing the State Amateur (1975), the State Mid-Amateur (1992 and 1995) and the State Senior Amateur (2003).

The 1975 New York State Amateur was among Foster’s most important wins. Foster, member of Bellevue Country Club, has also dominated the local circuit with Post-Standard (formerly Herald) Amateur wins in 1980 and 1986. He added Herald Seniors titles in 1999 and 2009.

Foster won the first of his Gerry Ashe Memorial titles in 1982 and repeated in 1983. He also won back-to-back titles in 1993-94 and 1996-97.

One of Foster’s best years on the links was 1999 as he finished second in the prestigious National Senior Porter Cup, won a National Best Ball tourney in Washington, D.C. and finished second in the New York State Seniors.

In 2005, Foster won the biggest tournament of his career by claiming the British Senior Amateur at Woburn Golf Club.
