Mid O'Hare, a standout football, basketball and baseball player in his youth, is also one of the area's most successful amateur golfers.

O’Hare was a three-sport star at Vocational High School in Syracuse and later at Clarkson College. He had great success playing football at Clarkson. One of his most memorable games came in 1926 when O’Hare drop-kicked a 50-yard field goal to beat Rochester, 3-0.

O’Hare’s professional career included teaching and coaching for 29 years at Eastwood High School. Despite his busy schedule, O’Hare also found time to excel at golf. He won several prestigious amateur events including four Syracuse District Golf Association titles and five New York State Seniors championships.

Career highlights:

1918: Won County Caddy Championship
1921-1923: Starred in football, basketball and baseball programs at Vocational High School in Syracuse 
1925-1929: Attended Clarkson College and played football, basketball and baseball 
1930-1931: Earned Physical Education/Science degree at Appalachian State Teachers College where he played two years of varsity sports 
1931-1937: Taught at Huleryville and Roscoe High Schools 
1938-1967: Began teaching and coaching at Eastwood High School. Coached football, basketball and golf
1938-1966: Won 11 Drumlins Club Championships
1954: Named Syracuse Sportsman of the Year 
1962: Named Golfer of the Year
Golfing achievements:

SDGA champ: 1937, 1939, 1940, 1958. Runner-up in 1952, 1964.
District Seniors champ: 1953, 1954, 1957. Runner-up in 1956.
Central New York Open: 1940 champ.
Runner-up in 1941, defeated Gene Sarazen
Five-time New York State Seniors champ 
Bellevue Course Record: 1953-1963.
Holes In One: Five, including one in 1980
