Jimmy Lee Basketball Enshrined: 2002 Born: Kirkwood, NY One of the finest shooters to ever play at Syracuse University, Jimmy Lee led the Orange to three NCAA tournaments from 1972-1975. As a four-year starter at Windsor High School, basketball was Lee’s primary sport even though he played baseball and football. He was Broome County’s leading scorer his junior and senior years, averaging 26.2 and 27.9 ppg, respectively. At SU, the 6-foot-2 Lee averaged 13.4 ppg and handed out 269 assists. The sharpshooting guard was named freshman co-captain in 1970-71 and averaged 18.1 ppg in helping the team to a 17-1 record. During the next three years, Lee and SU enjoyed great success with records of 24-5, 19-7 and 23-9. In Lee’s senior season, he co-captained the team to the NCAA Final Four. In 1973, he led the team and was fifth in the country with an 88.6% free-throw accuracy. He led the team in assists his junior and senior years and was sixth in the nation in foul shooting during the 1974-75 season. Lee was named to the ECAC All-Star team and the Final Four All-Tournament Team in 1975. He was the top scorer in the 1975 NCAA tournament and was named a Helms Foundation All-American. He was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers but signed with the San Antonio Spurs. He has been inducted into the Section IV Hall of Fame and was selected to the Syracuse University All-Century Basketball Team.
