2006-2009 FM Girls Cross Country Teams

In recent years, the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame has given special recognition to Central New York teams that have had outstanding success and accomplishments over the.

The Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Cross Country teams fit that description aptly. In those four years (2006-2009), the team has been four-time CNYCL league champions, four-time Section III champions, four-time New York State champions, four-time regional champions and four-time national champions. You simply can’t do better than that.

The 2009 New York State Public High School Athletic Association Champion team won the meet with a perfect score of 15 (runners finished 1-5 in the race). This had never before been accomplished in the history of the meet. Mind-boggling .

That’s an accurate way to describe what the Fayetteville-Manlius girls cross country team has accomplished over the last four years. Paced by Molly Malone, Mackenzie Carter, Hannah Luber, and Courtney Chapman, F-M has also won four Nike Nationals team championship in Portland, Oregon.

No scholastic team in the nation should be able to dominate every other squad in its particular sport four consecutive years. That’s because there are too many strong teams around the country — in every sport — for one school to defeat every other contender year after year. That shouldn’t happen. No way.

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations Web site, a total of 13,809 girls teams competed in cross country. Presumably, the F-M team was better than 13,808 of those teams. That’s because all of the nation’s top teams are eligible to compete in one of the eight regional meets across the country that advance top teams to the Nike finals.

2008 - Courtney Chapman, Meaghan Anklin, MacKenzie Carter, Hannah Luber, Molly Malone, Kathryn Buchan and Alexandra Chapman.
