Don Langenmayr was a record-setting swimmer at Liverpool High School then developed into one of the country’s top butterfliers at Auburn University. A prep All-American, he set state records in the 200-yard individual medley and the 400 freestyle. He also helped the Warriors win 38 straight dual meets. 
  
At Auburn University, Langenmayr was a three-time All-American. At one time, he was ranked eighth in the world in the 100-meter butterfly. At a USA vs. Russia dual meet, Langenmayr set a Russian national record in the 100-yard butterfly event.

Langenmayr finished third in the 1976 U.S. Olympic Trials to narrowly miss making the Olympic team. Langenmayr’s promising swim career was cut short when he died at the age of 24 in a car accident while training in Texas for the 1980 U.S Olympic trials.

Langenmayr was the first swimmer to be inducted into the Greater Syracuse Hall of Fame.

Career highlights:

1972: High School All-American in the 100-yard butterfly 
1973: Member of the Liverpool Relay Team that set a New York State record of 3:18.3 in the 400-yard relay 
1973: Named All-American in three events; Set New York State record in the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay; Honorable mention All-American in 100 yard butterfly events; Led Liverpool to 38 straight wins in dual meets 
1974-1978: Attended Auburn University; All-American three years, ranked fifth in the 100-yard butterfly 
1976: Tied for 3rd and final spot in USA Olympic Trials
