Al Romeo was an influential figure in promoting the sport of tennis in Central New York.
Starting in 1930, Romeo served as the club pro at Sedgwick Farms Tennis Club for 45 years. He offered free clinics at city parks and handed out free rackets and balls to kids who couldn't afford them. Two of his clinics featured notable tennis players Don Budge and Bobby Riggs.

A certified member of the U.S. Pro Tennis Association, Romeo served as the co-organizer and Chairman for the USPTA in Upstate New York. He also coached at Le Moyne College and was the Director of Athletics and coach for basketball, football, and tennis at Manlius Pebble Hill School.

Career highlights:


*Graduate degrees from SUNY Cortland and Syracuse University 
*Member of Sedgwick Farm Tennis Club for over 50 years. President for over 30 years. *Provided programs and scholarships for kids at Sedgwick Farms. First to bring tennis to the Syracuse elementary school level 
*Contributor of tennis articles to the Syracuse Newspapers
1957: Part-time leader for the City of Syracuse Recreational Committee. Tennis consultant and member of the advisory staff for Dunlop Sports 
1968: Developed instant replay recorder to aid in teaching the fundamentals of tennis 
*Honorary Member of the Tennis Association of Central New York 
*Held tennis clinics at Lourdes Camp, Marcellus High School and Boy and Girls clubs
*Active in Little League Baseball; coached All-Star team
*Physical Education Instructor at St. Rose of Lima school 
1992: At age 80, received USPTA 30 years of service award 
*Recipient of the "Volunteer Service Award" from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
