Enshrined: 1996

Born: December 5, 1929

Throughout his tennis career, Hal McGrath has been a king on the courts. As a teenager, McGrath proved he was among the best young players in the area after winning the New York State boys singles title in 1944.

In his freshman year at Syracuse University, McGrath won the 1951 Eastern Intercollegiate championship and was ranked 10th nationally. From 1951 to 1954, he was a team captain and the squad’s No. 1 player.

McGrath’s crisp serves and volleys helped his game stay at a high level in his adult years. McGrath played on Syracuse's Marsh Cup team and during a span of 20 years, he lost only one match.
