Carol Moss’ lengthy career in athletics has been spent serving high school student-athletes. Moss devoted many years to Solvay High School, where she served as athletic director and earned acclaim as one of the winningest varsity volleyball coaches in Onondaga League history.

Since her first year in 1972, Moss’ volleyball teams have captured numerous Onondaga High School League and Section III championships. Moss amassed 589 career wins as volleyball coach. She also garnered a number of honors including 1995 Region I Coach of the Year, 1995 National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association National Coach of the Year, and Woman of the Year by the National Organization for Women (1998). In 2004, she was inducted into the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.

Moss coached girls soccer from 1968 to 2001 and won several OHSL and Section III crowns. She finished with 319 career wins. She also spent 10 seasons as the school’s head softball coach (1975-1984) and 13 more seasons as the head basketball coach (1968-1980). The tireless Moss coached Solvay teams in tennis, gymnastics, track and field, bowling, and cheerleading.

Along with her coaching responsibilities, Moss served on the Section III Executive Committee, Gender Equity Committee and the Girls Sports Committee each for at least six years. Over a 20-year span, she worked on the Mixed Competition Committee, Volleyball Committee and Soccer Committee for Section III. Moss also has been a member of the Executive Board of the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame.

1966: Graduated from SUNY Brockport

1972: Became Solvay volleyball coach, won 589 matches

1995: Named Region I Coach of the Year; National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association National Coach of the Year

1998: Woman of the Year by the National Organization for Women

2002: Appointed as Dean of Students while serving as AD with the Solvay Union Free School District

2004: Inducted into the NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame

2006: Elected as President of Section III of the NYSPHSAA and also received a Special Service Award from NYSPHSAA
