Emmett V. Kelly

  • Born in Syracuse, New York in 1911.
  • 1917: Age 6, caddied at Burnet Park Golf Course and Bellevue Country Club
  • 1925: Age 14, became Assistant golf pro at Tuscarosa Country Club
  • 1930: Became the golf pro at Tuscarosa C.C.
  • 1930 - 1983: Member of the PGA of America
  • 1931 - 1935: Became golf pro of the new Stonehedge C.C. (now called Westvale C.C.) and then at Brooklawn
  • Emmett Kelly, was the head pro from 1936-66 at Green Lakes State Park Golf Course . He was hired by the course architect, Robert Trent Jones Sr., and remained at the scenic Fayetteville layout until becoming the Cavalry Club's first head pro in 1966.

    The charismatic Kelly, who played in the course's first foursome in 1936, knew celebrities from around the country. He gave lessons to the likes of Bob Hope and Joe DiMaggio. Today, his picture hangs in memory at the course's clubhouse.

  • 1963: Testimonial dinner in his honor at the Hotel Syracuse
  • 1967 - 1978: Golf pro at the Calvary Club
  • He died in 1980
